Anxiety and Depression

How I stopped being angry at my family

By Stacey A. Shannon on Tuesday, October 16, 2018
How I stopped being angry at my family

Overcoming anger at doing tasks nobody cares about or notices Mom anger is an issue we don’t talk about often enough. I’ve felt it so many times, and I’m guessing you have, too. I’m talking about anger that starts building in you when you do a task that no one notices or has a clue …

A new pet I never dreamed of having

By Stacey A. Shannon on Saturday, October 13, 2018

My favorite kind of days are the ones where we don’t have to leave the house. That may be because I’m an introvert, or it may be because six days a week we have somewhere to be between school and church. It’s probably a combination of both. Today we are having that kind of Saturday. …

Graceful or grace-filled?

By Stacey A. Shannon on Thursday, October 11, 2018

How grace-filled is different from graceful When I think of someone who is graceful, I think of a ballerina or a dancer who moves in fluid, smooth lines. I think of someone who seems to float more than walk. That person is not me. Not at all! And that’s not what this site is about. …

11 ways to help kids deal with the death of a loved one

By Stacey A. Shannon on Friday, October 5, 2018

In May of 2016, our beloved family dog had to be put to sleep after a short battle with an aggressive cancer that couldn’t be treated. In May of 2017, my last remaining grandparent — my maternal grandmother — passed away after a few months battling varying issues. A couple of days ago, my uncle …

A parent’s prayer — FREE printable!

By Stacey A. Shannon on Wednesday, September 26, 2018

How to pray for yourself as a parent About two years ago, a friend of mine shared a prayer for parents on social media. I really liked it, and I have been using it ever since. I’ve been curious about its origins, so I did a bit of research and found that a version of …

A little grace in marriage goes a long way to avoid conflict

By Stacey A. Shannon on Monday, September 24, 2018

Grace in marriage improves your relationship Last Monday, I had to pick up my daughter from school early for an orthodontist appointment. Right after her appointment, we had to go back to school to pick up her brother. It wasn’t all that hard, because the orthodontist isn’t too far from school, but it was just …

More than just an umbrella

By Stacey A. Shannon on Friday, September 14, 2018

Last week, I was picking my kiddos up from school and it was pouring the rain. The way their school is set up, I have to walk up to the building to get them and then walk them back to the car, parked across the street. It’s a bit of an ordeal on rainy days, …

Team marriage

By Stacey A. Shannon on Friday, September 14, 2018

Last month, my husband and I celebrated our 19th anniversary. I have been thinking about the girl I was 19 years ago. I have thought about what I would go back and say to that 20-year-old girl who was finishing all the last-minute tasks. And I’ve decided, I wouldn’t say much more than just enjoy …

About This Blog

Welcome to Families with Grace! My name is Stacey, and I’m a follower of Jesus, a wife, a mom of two kiddos and a freelance journalist. I share a little bit of all of that here on Families with Grace along with some practical and spiritual tips. I am passionate about extending grace. God gives me so much grace when I flop and flail and mess up. Yet, He keeps on loving me. I’ve realized that grace plays such a huge role in family life. We can be so quick to extend grace and kindness to other people – sometimes complete strangers – and forget to do so inside our homes with the very people we love the most. Grace is a daily (sometimes minute-by-minute!) challenge, so this page is all about that. You’ll find lessons I’ve learned as a Christian, a wife and a mom. I share emotional and spiritual thoughts as well as practical ones. Even a family with grace needs practical ideas for how to make life run smoother and easier. Join me on the journey to create a home filled with grace, love and faith as we build our Families with Grace!

About Me

Stacey

I fell in love with writing when I was a child; it has always been part of my life. I have two degrees in journalism and started my own freelance writing company in 2002. I continue to work as a freelance journalist, copywriter and editor. Along with that, I have been married to my high school sweetheart since 1999. In 2009 and 2013, our family grew to include first a daughter and then a son. I deal with a couple of chronic illnesses and feel blessed to be able to work from home while my kiddos are at school. My husband works from home the majority of the time as well. Thankfully, we still enjoy being together and have learned to give each other a lot of grace! Even through the trials of life, God has been so good to us. I love being able to share with you what He is doing in our lives!
